Avianca Gate Attendant Tried to Exhort Money From Me

I flew from Medellin to Bogata and then in to Riohacha. I had a carry on bag and a camera bag.

On the two flights there I did not have to pay anything additional for the carry on bag. While leaving Riohacha I was the only person pulled out of line and told I had to pay cash for the luggage. I refused to pay cash as I had no Colombian currency left, but I had a credit card. The attendant kept demanding cash only.

It wasnt until I asked for his supervisor that he accepted the credit card. I didnt have to pay anything extra for 3 of the 4 flights. Although I was traveling with Colombians I was clearly a tourist. I almost missed the flight because he argued with me to pay cash only.

I opened an incident with Avianca and have heard nothing in over two weeks from the company. I asked if it was company policy to demand cash only to pay for luggage. No gate attendant would accept cash.

Obviously he was trying to exhort money out of me! I will never fly with Avianca again!!

This company is Garbage , there are other options , you will regret flying with this company , I booked round trip from Seattle S to El salvador , do to missing my departure , they cancel my returning trip and forced me to rebuy my ticket with over 20 empty seats on the plane , these says it all about this greedy company , over 5 hours flight from el salvador to san francisco and no snack or drinks ,

My name is Lidia Abrego

And I had made a purchase back on January 20th/2024

3KDN3C. And my husband last his job and I call customer service to let them know that we can't travel because of that specific reason, and that I will like my money back, because with that money I can pay a month of rent!

I told her exactly those words! She told me that I needed to wait 30 days because it was in process, and we needed to wait for approval. Just so you guys know, she never mentioned it to me that I was only going to get the taxes back $280 dollars. I found that out until I made another call, and they told me that YES ONLY that amount I was going to receive.

I was shocked by that news, the ladie that I have spoken at first she never ever mentioned that to me. Otherwise, I would have never ever canceled!

So that's when I start calling them and will hang up on me! No one wanted to take ownership of the wrong information that I got! Plus I told them and that's what I want to give me a credit so I can travel with my family another day!

I can't lose $2,143.50 dollars. I honestly don't want to take this any further because this is liability, I was not informed by one of the Avianca employees of the consequences of canceling.

and just by customer service, give me a credit, I don't want my money back, just a credit, so I can travel another day with my family. I'll be waiting for your email.

My name is Zeyede Felek Temeselew I purchased a airline ticket on avianca from Madrid (Spain ) to Managua( Nicaragua) with a transit of El Salvador international Airport in October 09.2023, but after I purchased a ticket the El Salvador international Airport has entitled a new charge of 1000 USD dollars tariff for travelers who are African in October 23rd 2023 and due to the new tariff if the African travelers who purchased airline ticket before October 23rd 2023 are not willing to pay the new charge they can refund their ticket.because of this case I applied a refund but they have only refunded me the tax but it should be refund the purchased price .

I have been charged for a ticket but have received nothing!!! Where is my ticket?

After searching the world over, I was finally able to get a number to reach a live person. She said the booking code, 4L8PCK, was empty!!! They "escaled" and said to expect a response in 15 days. 15 days that you have my money but I have no ticket.

What am I supposed to do, by another more expensive ticket or wait 15 days and have to be buy a ticket for a flight that may be sold out. How can you run a business where the taking of money from the customer is separate from the actual issuing of the ticket to the customer. You provide nothing, nothing even thought I have been charged. I am lucky to have the booking code.

Why is this so hard???

I am writing this email to you to highlight the error on both on my boarding pass and check-in e-mail issued by Avianca which cost me to lose my flight on October 31, 2023, and forced me to purchase another ticket from a different airline, an unexpected and costly purchase as I was forced to buy a round trip ticket instead of one way.

I bought a one-way ticket from the website Expedia.com in October 2023. As reflected in Expedia's itinerary email, the flight was scheduled to depart from NY- JFK International airport on October 31, 2023, at

12:20 am arriving in Bogota, Colombia early morning and then transfer to a direct flight towards its destination in Santiago, Chile.

The boarding pass was sent to me via the Avianca telephone application.

The boarding pass date clearly stated October 31, 2023.

Reviewing the itinerary and the boarding pass issued to me, I noticed a discrepancy in the time the flight arrived in Colombia which prompted me to call Avianca airlines. The client assistant representative checked my reservation and informed me that everything seems to be in order. However, when I mentioned the time discrepancy in the arrival time in Colombia, he checked my reservation one more time, and after waiting a couple of minutes, the Avianca representative informed me that my flight left last night, and the system had me as a "no show". Thus, there was nothing he could do about it even though the itinerary and boarding pass indicated I was supposed to be at the NY-JFK airport on October 31, not on October 30th.

The following week contacted Expedia and I was informed that Avianca is the one that issued the boarding pass and thus if there was an error on the departure time of the flight, I should contact Avianca.

I sent a written complain to Aviancas via their website as it is indicated to do so. I received a response from Avianca stating that they reviewed the complaint and based on their own investigation, from the beginning process of the reservation with Expedia until the issuance of the boarding pass Avianca did not change or issued my boarding pass. The following week contacted Expedia again (they do not have emails for complaints) and

spoke by phone with the complaint department representative. As per Expedia is concerned, the airline is the one that issues the boarding pass and there is nothing they could do in terms of returning at least half of a refund.

On December 8, 2023, contacted a travel section column of the New York Times (trippedup).

Received a response from columnist on December 22, 2023.

Columnist reviewed email sent from Avianca to me on October 30 at 10:30 am. The email from Avianca is confirming my check-in a flight that has already left 10 hours earlier This seems to be Avianca's problem.

I would like a refund from what is obviously an error on the part of Avianca.

They canceled my flight without sending any type of email and didnt want to give me the same direct flight I had paid for until I said something, I had already checked in and everything so I took a bus from very far to make it on time only to stay stuck in the airport for 2 extra hours so they could figure out what to do and then I had to pay for a hotel since I was going as q backpacker and they didnt provide me absolutely anything. I also lost a day of work for over $800 and nobody has gave me any type of compensation for nothing when it was entirely their fault.

This was very disappointing and frustrating. I want a full refund and a voucher for the hotel and the extra expenses I had to take care of.
